My top 10 favourite wedding stylist hacks for this year
Styling weddings is not only a beautiful job - it’s fun, creative, rewarding and can be super profitable. It’s a whole lot of a job though and can be really challenging at times.
When wedding season is in full swing it can mean fulfilled yet exhausted stylists with literally no time for admin, coffee for breakfast and post bridal party food binges, aching legs thinking how much longer can my body take this?
I have absolutely been here with all of these.. except the coffee for breaky, I’m still yet to have one ever but that’s a story for another day.
Check out below for my 10 fave tips to keep you sane for wedding hair stylists this year
1. Admin program/systematic emails
An admin program is a game changer for the behind the scenes of our booking process.
An admin program or otherwise known as an automated booking system is a monthly investment in the form of a subscription so possibly not for everyone.
The appeal of a system set up like this in our business is that with just one click we have a fully automated service from
booking/paying deposit
booking trial appointment online
rescheduling trial if necessary
confirming details
invoice payment prompt with reminders
testimonial request
first year anniversary congratulations email
With a set up like this we literally press one button to mark enquiry available or not, and if so, the client will embark on a seamless journey without another intervention needed.
The only emails remaining are specific question emails this cutting down the volume of emails coming in and are usually responded to within 5-10 minutes per day.
If an admin program isn’t an option for you right now, you can still have pre typed emails for each of these steps and a spreadsheet for each bride to keep yourself organised and not missing a beat with your client journey!
2. Confirmation of details
This is one of the emails in the journey mentioned above that I wanted to spotlight as it is a great opportunity to catch any changes that may not have been communicated with you before it’s too late.
In this form we request the bride to fill in the same blanks about address, contact number, timing, number of hairstyles as well as some additional wedding vendor information and cross check this info with what is marked in my calendar booking for my bride a week prior to their day.
I started this one just after Covid when plans were being changed left right and center and have found it so valuable that I have kept it a part of the usual email chain.
3. Protein for breakfast
I used to have a piece of vegemite on toast in the car on the way to a wedding and wonder why I was starving hungry 5 minutes into the hairstyling session, feeling full blown sick by the end.
I guess I was expecting a bit much from empty carbs.
My solution – a good whack of protein.
This takes us longer to digest keeping us fuller for longer.
My go to at the moment is whipping up a frittata the night before to eat in the car on the way. Some of my other go to’s are boiled eggs or Greek yogurt with granola and berries.
4. Pack kit day before
The earlier I can pack my kit in the lead up to a wedding, the better.
I love to wash, steralise, top up and organise as early as possible.
Honestly, this task is probably my least favourite out of everything I do within my business.
Is this you too, or do you find it someway therapeutic?
Sometimes I even pay my kids to organize my pins etc. that’s how much I don’t vibe it lol.
Kit packing is something I try to avoid doing even the night before if I can get it done sooner. I love the feeling of it being done and ready to go so try and do it as early as possible.
5. Ensure enough petrol and plug address into sat nav/maps the night before
I’m all about time saving the morning of a wedding.
We know what’s coming, it’s all about being focused for our bride.
I find the more tasks I can set and forget the night before, the better I sleep knowing the morning will be as streamlined as possible.
Petrol the night before if not prior to just makes sense especially often travelling in the dark.
I know that plugging the address into maps will take two seconds in the morning but my biggest fear is getting it wrong.
I find being in control of this the night before in a super calm headspace before bed makes it a no brainer for me to just click the last address and off we go.
6. Pack snacks in your Kit Bag
I always pack a protein bar in my kit for a top up on the job.
I know not everyone is a bar fan, but I have found it to be super handy for when there’s no decent food at a job, or worse still, you’re not offered any!
My favourite bars are those dense 45 gram protein bars that hit like a full meal, helping me keep focus and the hangries at bay.
7. Stay hydrated
I used to be so bad at the water thing and have noticed a huge difference in how alert I feel from upping my game with this!
8. Set your podcast night before
Podcast friends this is for you, I am a sucker for a podcast too!
From learning a new skill, to business, parenting, gripping crime stories and everything in between..
Selecting my juicy poddy the night before is a must so I can get straight in my car, press play and take a little me time while munching down on some frittata. Bliss!
9. Legs up a wall When we get home
Take this from your old varicose vein encrusted friend haha.
Laying on your back on the ground or bed and putting your legs up the wall for 5-10 minutes is so good for blood flow, swelling, pain and just to keep those pins in good working order for years to come.
10. Work uniform
This may sound a little random but every wedding I wear a uniform.
This consists of a branded work tee, jeans and a blazer.
Something that is on brand while promoting my brand and giving me a seamless getting ready process without having to think even.
